Things are moving fast on the e-cigarette standards group. Voluntary product standards have now been published, in French, by AFNOR, and the PAS 54115 (Publicly Available Specification) is actively being worked on by BSI, ready for planned publication in May. An over-arching standards technical committee is being set up by CEN (the European Committee for Standardisation) to create a series of European wide standards for electronic cigarettes and e-liquids, with the first meeting of the committee planned for 22 June 2015. This committee will include representatives of National Standards Bodies (NSBs) including BSI (British Standards Institution), NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland), AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) and many others. This first meeting will enable objectives and strategy for the committee to be agreed, including agreeing the technical working groups that are appropriate.
Nerudia is looking forward to contributing to these standards alongside other interested stakeholders, and believes the standards will help ensure appropriate safety of both e-cigarettes and e-liquids.
We are keen to take an active role in ensuring standards are in place for analytical methods – making sure these form an appropriate basis for identification and quantification of chemical components relating to the safety of e-liquids and emissions. Our extensive range of laboratory equipment coupled with our multi-skilled laboratory analysts gives us a unique opportunity to do this.
